The hilarious audience interactive performance ‘Mrs. Krishnan’s Party’ will be on the Kahilu Theatre stage on March 1.
India Ink bridges cultures and expands boundaries with this utterly disarming new comedy that seats the audience around the dining table, and at the kitchen bench in the back room of the Krishnan’s dairy. Now that her son is grown up, Mrs. Krishnan is thinking of selling the shop. It’s Onan (an annual Hindu holiday) a time to celebrate life, death, and rebirth, and Mrs. Krishnan has to throw the party of her life. This joyous, heart-warming show picks up the story twenty years on from the production that started it all — Krishnan’s Dairy.
Written by Jacob Rajan and Justin Lewis Indian Ink blends western theatrical traditions with eastern flavours in pursuit of “serious laughter.” Live music, heightened theatricality, humour, pathos and great storytelling are hallmarks of their work.
Starring Kalyani Nagarajan and Justin Rogers, audience members are invited to step into the back room of Mrs. Krishnan’s dairy where garlands decorate the ceiling, music flows and Mrs. Krishnan is throwing a party like no other. Food simmers on the stove, laughter abounds and strangers become friends in this joyous celebration of life.
Indian Ink has won multiple awards in New Zealand and two Fringe First Awards at Edinburgh. The company’s international successes include tours throughout Australia and the USA, as well as sell out seasons in Singapore, Germany, India and the UK.
Seating is limited for this production and reserved seats are required. Tickets prices range from $38-$100, and can be purchased at www.kahilutheatre.org, by calling 885-6868 or at the Kahilu Theatre Box Office located at 67-1186 Lindsey Road.
